Hundreds of Boy Scouts to gather at Air Zoo for fourth annual rally
From badges to camping to experiencing what it’s like to walk on the moon and even flying in a real plane, Boy Scouts from across the area will be gathering at the Air Zoo to experience all these activities from Thursday, July 31 through Sunday, August 3.
Not only will the fourth annual Boy Scout rally give Scouts of all ages a chance to have fun, but it is also an opportunity for Scouters (boys interested in joining the organization) to get to know more about Boy Scouts by attending with a host troop.
“With such a wide array of activities related to flight, the Air Zoo is the ultimate destination for Scouts wanting to spread their wings,” says Bob Ellis, executive director of the Air Zoo.
This year’s activities for Scouts will include:
- Admission to the Air Zoo and Michigan Space Science Center, including all rides and simulators
- Plane rides provided by the EAA “Young Eagles” program
- Boy Scout badge earning activities (including the Aviation, Astronomy, Space Exploration and Weather)
- Cub Scout belt loop earning activities (Space Derby, Ultimate Frisbee and Weather)
- A-10 Warthog guest speaker
- Displays including the Portage Fire Department, area SWAT team, State Police Bomb Squad, and re-enactors from the Civil War era through the World War II era
