On July 31, Air Zoo visitors will have the opportunity to take flight in the Yankee Warrior-a B-25 Mitchell bomber with World War II combat history.
The Yankee Air Museum's Yankee Warrior will be at the Air Zoo's East Campus from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. During that time, visitors will be able to purchase a 30-minute flight experience on the warbird for $400 per person. Tours of the aircraft will also be available for $4 per adult and $3 per child.
In conjunction with the B-25 visit, the Great Lakes Burn Camp will hold a motorcycle ride benefit to help send kids who are burn survivors to camp for free. Registration for the ride begins at 9 a.m. with the ride commencing at 11 a.m. A group of kids from the camp will also be taking a ride on the Yankee Warrior, thanks to generous donations made by Bowers Manufacturing, Perry's Harley-Davidson and CTS Telecom Inc.
The Yankee Warrior flew in eight bombing missions in Corsica, with success in missions over Sicily and through the Brenner Pass. The B-25 Mitchell was the most effective medium bomber of World War II and was the first medium bomber to fly off of an aircraft carrier.
To purchase a ride in the B-25 Yankee Warrior in advance, please contact John Vander Ven at 269.250.0783 or jvanderv@sbcglobal.net. To learn more about the Great Lakes Burn Camp motorcycle ride benefit, contact Tamra Stafford at 269.350.2815. For more information about the Air Zoo, visit www.airzoo.org or call 269.382.6555.
