Air Zoo to extend free general admission through 2009

Due to the overwhelming response by visitors, the Air Zoo has decided to extend its free general admission through the end of 2009. The free general admission offer is part of the Air Zoo's 30th anniversary celebration-and the 5th anniversary of opening the Main Campus.
The response to the celebration was incredible and during that time, more than 120,000 people have visited the museum. Visitor surveys conducted during the promotion revealed that 25 percent were from out of state and more than a third were unemployed. In fact, visitors to the Air Zoo came from all 50 states and several foreign countries. Survey results also revealed that spending a day at the Air Zoo was the reason several out-of-area visitors stayed in Kalamazoo-area hotels and decided to visit other local attractions.
The Air Zoo is a non-profit organization that relies on funding from generous donors, corporations and foundations to be able to offer programming and exhibits to the public, which includes the free general admission celebration.
"Because the response was so tremendous and that so many people-due to the depressed economy-could not have enjoyed the Air Zoo otherwise, we are pleased to be able to continue to make the museum available to everyone," says Bob Ellis, executive director of the Air Zoo.
The free general admission includes entrance to both the Main and East Campus, viewing all the aircraft, artifacts and artwork on display, plus admission to the 4D theater and the Space Walk. For those who would like to expand their experience even further, the rides, including the Montgolfier Balloon ride, Flying Circus Bi-Plane Ride, Full-Motion Flight Simulators, 3D Space Shuttle, Mars Adventure, Space Ball and Zero G are available for a modest charge.
Ride tickets are available for $2 each and each ride takes only one or two tickets. Visitors may opt to purchase an ultimate ride pass for only $12.95 that allows unlimited rides all day long. Annual Passes are an exception value and allow visitors to enjoy the rides for no additional charge for an entire year.
