KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Air Zoo and Kalamazoo Astronomical Society (KAS) have joined forces to host daytime activities for Astronomy Day on April 21.

From 10 a.m.-4 p.m., the KAS will feature educational displays, hands-on activities for children and special presentations at the Air Zoo. It will also offer stargazing in the Starlab Planetarium every 30 minutes, beginning at 11 a.m. For a $5 donation, guests will also be able to have their photo taken against a green screen and choose a celestial backdrop.

Astronomy Day is free and open to the public. (Please note that Astronomy Day does not include admission to enjoy the Air Zoo's rides and attractions.) Evening activities, including a keynote presentation by SETI Institute Director Dr. Jill Tarter, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Kalamazoo Nature Center.

The Air Zoo is a nonprofit organization located at 6151 Portage Rd. in Portage, Mich. It is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and offers a restaurant, gift shop and banquet facilities. General admission is $8 per person. Unlimited rides and attractions may be purchased with a wristband package (Ultimate Ace-$15, Junior Flyer-$12, Co-Pilot-$8), which includes general admission, or tickets can be purchased individually for rides. Children who are 4 years old or younger are free.

Its purpose is to promote the exchange of information among those with a common interest in all areas of astronomy, to educate the public about astronomical discoveries and events and to cooperate with other amateur and professional astronomical organizations.
