KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Donating blood is one of the best and easiest ways to help save lives.
Area residents can help alleviate blood shortages by donating to Michigan Blood at the Air Zoo on Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each donor will receive a $10 gift card to Meijer, courtesy of Michigan Blood. Michigan Blood is a leading nonprofit provider of blood to hospitals throughout Michigan. It provides more than 100,000 units of blood per year to dozens of hospitals across the state.
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, be in good health and have a photo ID present. Donors are eligible to give blood every 56 days.
The Air Zoo is a nonprofit organization located at 6151 Portage Rd. in Portage, Mich. It is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and offers a restaurant, gift shop, and banquet facilities. General admission is $8 per person. Unlimited rides and attractions may be purchased with a wristband package (Ultimate Ace-$15, Junior Flyer-$12, Co-Pilot-$8), which includes general admission, or tickets can be purchased individually for rides.
