Air Zoo volunteer wins STAR Award
April 26, 2010
The Sharing Time and Resources (STAR) Awards has recognized Air Zoo volunteer Virgil Sanford for his outstanding volunteerism at the museum, Victory Baptist Church, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Kalamazoo Youth for Christ Juvenile Division.
The STAR Awards, co-sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Greater Kalamazoo and the Kalamazoo Gazette, recognizes exceptional volunteers who exemplify the essence of volunteerism. This is the STAR Awards 25th year honoring volunteers in the greater Kalamazoo area. This year, more than 1,200 volunteers were nominated in 12 categories
Sanford won a STAR Award in the Career Volunteer category and has been a volunteer at the Air Zoo for 18 years, spending most of his time working in the Flight and Restoration Center. Since 1992, he has volunteered more than 3,300 hours at the Air Zoo. In 2009 alone, he volunteered more than 1,200 hours at the organizations listed above.
"The Air Zoo is thrilled that Virgil was chosen as the 2010 Career Volunteer STAR Award recipient," said Tamra Stafford, Air Zoo volunteer and community resources manager. "He is an outstanding volunteer who has had a wonderful impact on the museum."
