Family Programs

Preschool STEAM Days at the Air Zoo!

Preschool STEAM Days are designed to give young children and their adult chaperones a taste of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). The fun, hands-on, interactive activities will leave your young scientist wanting to explore even more at home!

General Information

Dates: First Wednesdays of the month, according to the schedule (no programs in January or April).

Times: Check-in/Free time 10 – 10:30 am. Class 10:30 – 11:15 am.

Costs: $5 per participating child, plus admission (admission for 4 and under is free). Adults and non-participating children pay general admission (members free)

Registration: Visit for registration instructions. Walk-ins on the day of the event will be permitted to take a class. Online registration deadline is 3 pm the Monday before each class. Registration is limited to 32 students per class.

2019 - 2020 Preschool STEAM Days

October 2, 2019: Foamy Fizzy Science

Put on your goggles and prepare for some chemistry fun! Young scientists will experience safe chemistry experiments designed to spark wonder and imagination.

November 6, 2019: Fantastic Flying

Discover how people learned to fly by studying birds and experimenting with kites, gliders, and planes! After comparing the shapes and functions of a bird’s body with an airplane, young aviators make their own take-home flying machines.

December 4, 2019: Creepy Crawly Creatures

We will take a merry, not scary, look at some of the animals that crawl and creep. We’ll watch worms at work, meet a visiting reptile friend, and make a firefly model that glows in the dark.

February 5, 2020: Sun, Stars, and Solar System

Look beyond the Earth into the sky. Visit our STARLAB planetarium to learn more about our Sun, the stars and the planets.

March 4, 2020: Magnetic Magic

Discover how much fun learning about magnets can be as you go fishing to determine which items are magnetic, paint with magnets, and count how many paperclips your magnet can hold.

May 6, 2020: Young Engineers

This class is the blueprint for fun! Young architects will explore shapes and patterns while constructing a variety of structures. Can your straw, stick, and brick houses stand up to the breath of the Big Bad Wolf?Registration Open Soon!
