2022-2023 Girl Scout Super Science Saturdays & Activities

Girls Scout Program at the Air ZooSuper Science Saturdays 

During the Air Zoo’s Super Science Saturdays, Girl Scouts complete the requirements for a badge in one exciting day! Each Super Science Saturday is tailored for a particular Girl Scout level. Scouts will complete requirements towards badges, as well as, receive an Air Zoo fun patch! For more information view our Girl Scouts guide, or visit GSHOM.org

In addition to our scheduled scouting activities, an online or in person program can be customized for your pack or troop! For details or questions regarding any of our scouting programs or activities, contact our Group & Events Department at events@airzoo.org, or 269.350.2848! Each troop must have a minimum of one adult present. Please review the COVID 19 policy for use of the Star Lab during Space Badge Programs.

Space Science Explorer

October 8th

Registration Deadline: October 1st

Level: Daisy

Check in: Begins at 8:30 am | Program: 9:00 am – 12:30 pm

Become a space scientist as you explore the sun, moon, and stars! Observe how the sky changes during the day and investigate the phases of the moon. Learn about the tools scientists use to investigate the skies and hear stories of the stars as you explore constellations and create your own star stories!

Space Science Adventurer

November 19th

Reg. Deadline: Oct. 29 | Late Reg. Deadline: Nov. 5

Level: Brownie

Check in: Begins at 8:30 am | Program: 9:00 am – 12:30 pm

Whether you’ve searched for shooting stars or found shapes in clouds, you’ve probably already spent some time looking at the sky. Now’s your chance to see the sky in a new way – like a space scientist does! Brownies will meet Earth’s “neighbors” as they make a pocket solar system, view the moon and stars in our inflatable planetarium, make a constellation viewer, and more!

Investigate the vastness of space exploring our Solar System and beyond! Discover how scientists create models to represent the distances between objects in space, learn about orbits and why seasons change in Michigan. Discover the night sky and learn about constellations and planets that can be seen.

Mechanical Engineering: Fling Flyer Design Challenge and Race Car Design Challenge

February 11, 2023

Reg. Deadline: Jan. 21 | Late Reg. Deadline: Jan. 28

Level: Brownie

Check in: Begins at 8:30 am | Program: 9am – 12:30 pm

This design challenge takes you to the skies and back down to Earth! Investigate the forces of flight and design a Fling Flyer prototype to test. Think like an engineer as you brainstorm and create a race car. Try your hand on the racetrack and see if you can improve your design and increase your speed! 

Mechanical Engineering: Paddle Boat Design Challenge and Balloon Car Design Challenge

March 18, 2023

Level: Junior

Think like an engineer as you tackle design challenges!  Use the Design Thinking Process while testing your rubber band powered paddleboat and balloon car. Harness potential energy and use it to drive these challenges!

Do you have a need for speed? If so, these engineering challenges are just for you! Design and build a model car to race in the model car design challenge. Learn about the science of motion and speed as you build a model roller coaster to test out your hills, banks, and loops!
