Air Zoo Hosts Free Event Wednesday (4/17) Evening & 50% Discount for Military Families Saturday & Sunday (4/20-4/21)!

Portage, MI, April 15, 2019 – The Air Zoo is excited to be partnering with two amazing organizations, offering free and/or reduced admission to visitors.  The festivities begin Wednesday, April 17th, with a free after-hours event called, An Evening at the Air Zoo. On Saturday and Sunday, April 20th & 21st, the Air Zoo will be offering all military personnel and their immediate families 50% off general admission in recognition of April being designated as Month of the Military Child.

An Evening at the Air Zoo is part of Michigan State University’s 7th Annual Science Festival which runs from April 5th-April 20th. The festival centers around unraveling the mysteries of the universe and invites everyone to explore and learn about the world around them. More than 350 scientists, researchers and educational partners across the state are ready to dazzle, delight, inspire and educate thousands of visitors about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) and the key role each plays in our everyday lives and how they will shape the future. The Air Zoo will have educators on site leading fun STEAM based activities such as make-n-take stations, a slime table, an activity exploring electricity, building structures and more. The event is perfect for all ages and will run from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday the 17thAdmission for all is free!

According to Nathan Hanselman, coordinator for the Child and Youth Program for the Michigan National Guard, “April is the Month of the Military Child and was established to underscore the important role children play in the Armed Forces community. There are approximately 2 million military children across the country, ranging in ages from newborn to 18 years old. The care of these military children sustains our fighting force, strengthens the health, security, and safety of our nation's families and communities.”

The Air Zoo is proud to participate by offering all military personnel, and their immediate families (spouse/partner and children) 50% of their general admission on Saturday and Sunday, April 20th and 21st.  “We see a substantial number of veterans and active duty military members visit us throughout the year and, as a token of appreciation for their service, we always offer 50% off their admission. Realizing that the important role they play in protecting our country affects their loved ones most greatly, we hope this gives them an opportunity to spend a day together, among other local military families, creating memories as they explore the exhibits, rides and hands-on learning stations” states Director of Marketing, Nikki Statler.
