The Air Zoo’s new Community Access Membership program helps drive reach and impact for families receiving EBT and WIC assistance in Southwest Michigan

The team at the Air Zoo Aerospace and Science Center is proud to announce an exciting addition to their Community Access Programming. The new Community Access Membership (CAM) program, which has been in the works since November of 2021, will officially launch on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. This extension of the Air Zoo’s current Museum’s For All admission program will further support access to history, aerospace, and STEAM-based, hands-on educational opportunities to qualifying families in the area.

The Air Zoo’s Museums For All discounted admission program launched in November of 2019 and since then more than 9,000 guests have taken advantage of the reduced daily admission of $2/person for age 5+, with and additional 2,750 children aged four and under. The success of this program led Air Zoo Membership Manager, Rebecca Barr, on a mission to enhance the program and offer even greater impact and reach to the families in the area.

“Our Museums For All program has been very well received by the Kalamazoo community and beyond” stated Air Zoo Membership Manager, Rebecca Barr. Barr continued, “Our aim is to break down financial barriers and offer unlimited access at no cost to participating families. Removing these barriers will provide inspiring experiences for everyone, regardless of financial status. All children should have the opportunity to imagine, explore and discover with us.”

After months of planning and fundraising, the Air Zoo is pleased to announce the public launch of this new membership initiative. Thanks to the generosity of current program supporters Dorothy U. Dalton Foundation, The Rotary Club of Kalamazoo, Marvin and Rosalie Okun Foundation and Nancy Root, in memory of Dennis Root, the CAM program has enough funding to begin accepting applicants.  Applicants simply visit the Air Zoo for a day of discovery with their valid EBT (excludes P-EBT) or WIC card and photo ID. CAM supported memberships are identical to traditional membership levels (of the same level) and receive the same benefits.

In addition to the Community Access Memberships, the Air Zoo’s Community Access Programs include free Summer STEAM Days, Open Houses, Fly Ins and more. All are welcome to attend these events and activities.

Families and educators interested in the Air Zoo’s fee-based educational programs can also apply for assistance through the Science Inspiration Scholarship Fund. Funds are still available for school visits and summer camps and applications are being accepted as they are received.
