The Air Zoo is preparing to welcome their 3rd visiting aircraft of the summer. The Boeing B-17G “Yankee Lady,” will visit the Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Center’s Flight Discovery Center, beginning Friday August 13, 2021. The estimated time of arrival is 12:30PM and will stay until late Saturday afternoon.
This incredible aircraft last visited the Air Zoo May 31st - June 2nd of 2019, as part of the Air Zoo’s 40th Anniversary Celebration, and was welcomed by hundreds from the community! The Air Zoo is proud to receive them once again this Friday, August 13th for a short weekend visit. Guests are invited to visit with the crew, take ground tours and witness take off and landings as the aircraft takes passengers on 5 already sold-out Air Adventure tours. Flights are scheduled for 5pm and 6pm Friday evening, and 10am, 11am and noon on Saturday. Self-guided ground tours cost just $8 for adults (15 and above); $3 for kids aged 6 to 15 and children 5 and under are free.
The full schedule of Air Adventure rides on the B-17 is available at yankeeairmuseum.org/fly/ along with booking information. An Air Adventure ride is a 30-minute experience and costs $495 (SOLD OUT).
“Yankee Lady” is a World War Two, four-engine heavy bomber, commonly called a Flying Fortress. These planes, bristling with defensive machine guns, flew long distances to strike strategic targets over enemy territory. This helped end World War II by crippling the enemies’ ability to wage war. Yankee Lady is one of only nine airworthy B-17s in existence and none of these ever saw combat. Yankee Lady is one of only three B-17s on which a person can purchase a ride in 2021.
